Jack Davis Garry Oak treeIn 2025, the city hired Todd Prager and Associates to complete a second opinion Level 3 Advanced Tree Risk Assessment of the Davis Meeker Garry Oak. The assessment presented four options, and on April 15, 2025, the City Council chose “Option B,” which calls for retaining, managing, and monitoring the tree.

City staff then contracted with Todd Prager and Associates to create a detailed care plan, consult with tribal partners, and apply for the required permit from the Washington Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP). DAHP approved the first year permit in December 2025, focusing on improving soil conditions.

The city is now seeking approval of the work plan from the City Historic Preservation Commission.
