Wastewater refers to any water that needs cleaning after it is used indoors – such as water from dish washing, laundry, baths/showers, toilets, and countless other sources. All wastewater produced by the City of Tumwater is managed and treated by LOTT Clean Water Alliance plant. LOTT provides sewage treatment for all regional wastewater flows within Tumwater, Lacey, Olympia and select areas of Thurston County.

LOTT is a non-profit corporation whose services include wastewater treatment, reclaimed water production, and long-range planning for regional sewage treatment needs. “LOTT” stands for its four government partners – Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Thurston County. Functioning as a quasi-governmental agency, LOTT is governed by a Board of four elected officials appointed from its partner jurisdictions and operates under the authority of an intergovernmental agreement. Joint facilities include a large centralized treatment plant, a satellite treatment plant, three major pump stations, major sewer interceptor pipelines, and reclaimed water distribution pipelines.

What not to flush

You can protect your toilet, plumbing and your neighborhood sewer and septic systems by watching what you flush down the toilet. Only human waste and toilet paper should be flushed. Even wipes that claim to be flushable can clog pipes.

Remember the three P’s – only pee, poop and paper (toilet paper) belong in the toilet.

The following items should not go into toilets:

  • Paper towels
  • Cigarette butts
  • Disposable diapers
  • Wipes (baby or flushable)
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Plastics
  • Medications
  • Cotton (swabs or balls)
  • Dental floss
  • Toxic substances
