Traffic Enforcement

In addition to two full-time Metro officers assigned to traffic enforcement, the City has several tools available to assist in monitoring and slowing traffic. See Traffic Team.

Electronic Speed Signs are mounted to existing utility and sign poles and collect data, but don’t always show traffic speeds. Their location is based on traffic volumes and citizen complaints. Signs can be placed in “stealth mode,” where they collect data but don’t display speed. Pole-mounted speed signs typically stay in a location for two weeks due to limited battery life. The location is determined by traffic volumes and citizen complaints.

Prioritizing Traffic Concerns

Speed and traffic concerns can be reported by phone to the Police Department during regular business hours at (360) 754-4200. At this time, electronic speed signs are placed throughout the community on a temporary basis, according to priority. For more information about how the City addresses traffic concerns, visit the Traffic Team.
