Areas of Special Interest/Priorities
Preservation and expansion of access to affordable housing in Tumwater; working as a region to address homelessness in the greater South Sound; ensuring environmental sustainability and reducing our City’s carbon footprint; supporting local businesses and recruiting new businesses to our area; increasing access to alternative forms of transportation including bike lanes, sidewalks, and trails; increasing the availability of City parks in underserved areas like the south eastern and western quadrants of our City.
Michael’s top priorities focus on making Tumwater an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. Michael works as Policy Counsel to the Washington State Senate in the areas of mental health, human services, early learning, and corrections. Prior to his time in the Senate, Michael worked as a Staff Attorney at Columbia Legal Services, a non-profit public interest law firm in downtown Olympia. Michael’s practice focused on developing civil class action litigation on behalf of low-income families and seniors as well as policy advocacy in the areas of civil rights, human services, health, and housing security. Prior to his election to the Tumwater City Council, Michael served as a Planning Commissioner on the City of Tumwater Planning Commission.
Michael was born and raised in the South Sound and returned to Tumwater after law school to begin his practice and raise a family. Michael lives with his partner Paige and their dog Bailey in the Tumwater Hill neighborhood.
