Non-Profit Business License
A Non-Profit License is required for businesses that have been granted an IRS 501(C) status or are registered with Washington's Office of Secretary of State as a non-profit corporation. The licensee must complete a Business License Application, Business License Addendum and also provide a copy of their IRS 501 (C) certificate if they are not registered as a non-profit corporation with Washington's Office of Secretary of State. City approval required for initial issuance, and must renew annually.
In addition to a State and City business license, certain occupations, require an additional level of background check.

These rules were enacted to provide public safety in the practice of certain occupations that, by their nature, present a heightened public safety risk to the public. For this reason an occupational permit must be submitted to the City.
- For-Hire Vehicle Driver/Operator. It is unlawful for any person to drive a for-hire vehicle and pick up any passenger within the city without first obtaining an occupational permit in the manner provided by this chapter.
- Locksmith. It is unlawful for any person to act as a locksmith in the city without first obtaining an occupational permit pursuant to the provisions of this chapter.
- Solicitor. It is unlawful for any person to act as a solicitor, within the meaning and application of this chapter, without first obtaining an occupational permit in the manner provided by this chapter.

It is the purpose of this chapter to regulate sexually oriented businesses and related activities to promote health, safety, morals, and general welfare of the citizens of the City of Tumwater, and to establish reasonable and uniform regulations to prevent the deleterious location of sexually oriented businesses within the City. The provisions of this chapter have neither the purpose nor effect of imposing a limitation or restriction on the content of any communicative materials, including sexually oriented materials. Similarly, it is not the intent nor effect of this chapter to restrict or deny access by adults to sexually oriented materials protected by the State or Federal Constitutions, or to deny access by the distributors and exhibitors of sexually oriented entertainment to their intended market. Neither is it the intent nor effect of this chapter to condone or legitimize the distribution of obscene materials.
Cannabis Growers and Retailers
Cannabis growers and retailers are regulated through the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB). You can get more information by going to the WSLCB Web site.
Once appropriately licensed by the State of Washington, any grower or retailer is subject to the City of Tumwater business licensing requirements as any other business.
