New event & Festival LODGING TAX funds Available now

In 2016, the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) and Tumwater City Council set aside $50,000 to be distributed over three years to encourage new special events and festivals designed to attract tourists to the City of Tumwater. Understanding that new events may occur outside of the regular Lodging Tax application cycle, LTAC will meet throughout the year as new applications are submitted.

If you have a new event or festival that qualifies for Lodging Tax funds and are interested in having your event in the City of Tumwater, complete the New Event Lodging Tax Fill-in Application Form word-icon and Lodging Tax Fill-in Budget Form Excel Spreadsheet.

Completed applications can be dropped off at Tumwater City Hall or mailed to: Hanna Miles, Executive Department, 555 Israel Road SW, Tumwater, WA  98501.

Tumwater Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee is composed of a cross-section of representatives from the tourism industry. The Committee meets two to three times per year to develop a recommendation to the City Council for distribution of lodging tax funds. A policy to guide the City's investment of lodging tax in tourism related activities, facilities, and programs has been established through Resolution No. R2016-006.

Lodging tax, also called hotel/motel tax, is an additional 2% charge assessed to each hotel or motel room stay in the City. These revenues are earmarked for funding tourism-related activities as prescribed by state law. RCW 67.28.180; RCW 67.28.181; RCW 67.28.1816; Resolution No. R97-022; TMC Chapter 3.12

Funded agencies are required to apply each year and report back to the City on the use of funds. The open application period is typically the first business day in August to the last business day in August with application review and funding recommendations in September/October.
