Green Team

The City of Tumwater Green Team was established in 2019 as an interdepartmental initiative to improve the sustainability of city operations through policies, projects, and staff practices. The Green Team includes at least one staff member from each city department. New members of the Green Team are always welcome. If you’re interested in joining, contact the city’s sustainability manager.

Some of the Green Team’s biggest accomplishments in recent years

  • Compiling and releasing an Annual Green Team Sustainability Report.
  • Significantly increasing the number of EVs and EV chargers for the City Fleet.
  • Achieving SolSmart Silver accreditation from the U.S. Department of Energy.
  • Completing solar and battery storage feasibility studies and preliminary designs for City Hall the Tumwater Timberland Library, and both Fire Stations.
  • Completing an Investment Grade Audit of City Facilities.
  • Passing an Anti-Idle Policy for City Fleet vehicles.
  • Updating the City policy for Commute Trip Reduction.
  • Adding Environmental Purchasing requirements to the internal Purchasing Policy.

Green Team plans for 2025

  • Establishing an onboarding program to ensure new employees know about sustainability policies and programs.
  • Developing key performance indicators for Green Team work.

Composting

Many city projects are required by state law to utilize compost products. Submit this form for project review to ensure your project is in compliance with this requirement. Water Resources & Sustainability staff will respond to your submittal.
