Urban Farming and Livestock
In 2010, the Tumwater City Council amended the regulations regarding urban agriculture (Ordinance O2010-029) to make it easier for citizens to grow, raise, and sell food in the community. At that time, there were approximately three operational farms within the City of Tumwater. The regulations are intended to encourage prudent farming practices of an appropriate scale within the City while providing for mitigation measures in case of impacts to neighboring properties. The regulations do address ownership of chickens and other animals.
TMC 6.08 contains the regulations for animals, including type, number, and containment measures.
TMC 18.42.070 contains the regulations for agriculture uses up to 30 acres in size.
