Commercial Building Permits
The application process for a commercial building permit is much more extensive than applying for a residential permit. Below, you’ll find all of the required items that you must include with your permit application. The Community Development Department's Development Review Committee may be required to conduct a Site Plan Review and may request changes to your plans in order to comply with the Tumwater Muncipal Code. A Site Plan Review is typically not needed if the proposed development is minor, such as fences or small detached buildings.
You can begin building only after you have completed the City Site Plan Review process, your final plans are approved, and the appropriate fees are paid.
Commercial Fire Safety Inspections
Fire code compliance is reviewed by the City’s building official through the Site Plan Review process. For ongoing annual commercial Fire Safety Inspections, contact the Tumwater Fire Department at (360) 754-4170.
The City offers an online permit inquiry and inspection request service. Open the document below for instructions on how to register and use the online Permits & Inspections service, in order to inquire about the status of a permit or schedule inspections.
