Permitting and Development Review

The Permitting Division provides timely and responsive application processing and issuance of building permits and code enforcement.

Development Review includes reviewing and processing development permit applications, environmental and critical area analysis, and land division.

2024 Annual Permit Review Timeline includes permit review times for residential subdivisions and multi-family permits. 

Building

The Building Division provides regulation, oversight and guidance on all jobs related to construction (renovations and new construction) to ensure they conform to the Tumwater Municipal Code. The division also conducts building and fire code plan reviews and inspections.

Tumwater's technical staff are tested and certified by the International Code Council (ICC).

Public and private development in Tumwater

The Tumwater Development Projects interactive map highlights public and private development projects currently underway across the city. Blue squares symbolize private development projects undertaken by private individuals or businesses on property under private control using private funds. Red symbols identify public development projects, those undertaken by the city on property under the city’s control and funded by the public. Clicking on a symbol will reveal the project's name, location, and status. This map is updated on an as-needed basis.
