The Planning Commission is as an advisory body to the City Council on land use, Comprehensive Planning updates, development regulations, and other planning matters. The Commission plays an important role in guiding how Tumwater grows and develops.

The Planning Commission supports implementation of Washington State’s Growth Management Act by reviewing proposed planning policies and regulations, holding public hearings, and making recommendations to the City Council.

Terms & Membership

The Planning Commission consists of seven members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Members serve four-year terms.

  • Members must live within Tumwater city limits.
  • One member may reside within the Tumwater Urban Growth Area.
  • Commissioners are unpaid volunteers serving the community.
