The “Tumwater 10” firefighter/paramedic crew all on shift

Post Date:07/30/2025 2:05 p.m.

Ten new firefighter/paramedics hired in January through a partnership with Thurston County Medic One have all begun their shifts. Five of the new hires were lateral transfers and began shortly after being hired in January. Five completed additional training at the South Sound Recruit Academy and Washington State Fire Training Academy.

The new crew will continue to integrate into their shifts and our department while preparing for the implementation of a new Paramedic Unit beginning Jan. 1, 2026. The new unit will be located at the Northend Fire Station on Linwood Avenue.

The firefighter/paramedics will help the city and county reduce response times and meet the highest level of medical care for the community. They come with diverse backgrounds to work in Tumwater from across the country and the state—from Florida to Ocean Shores.

The new experts will help us fulfill our commitment contained in the EMS Levy restoration process of 2021 to build out our capabilities and provide Advanced Life Support services in Thurston County.

For 50 years, Medic One has partnered with the City of Tumwater and other area communities to make our region safer.
