Tour two wonderful homes in the Tumwater Historic District as part of the City's yearlong Sesquicentennial Celebration. Visit Tumwater’s Historic District and tour the Brewmaster’s House and the Crosby House for a look at the early days of our community! The houses are located at the entrance to Historical Park, 703 Deschutes Way in Tumwater.
Sunday, May 5, 2019: The Tumwater Historical Association Homestead Quilters will present a quilt show titled “Sunbonnet Sue Welcomes Spring.”
Attend the quilt show or check out the heritage activities on the lawn - both homes will be open from 1-4 p.m.
The show will feature Sunbonnet Sue quilts, the history of the Sunbonnet Sue quilt pattern, and Sunbonnet Sue/Overall Sam patterns. Enjoy refreshments on the lawn, a period costume display, quilt preservation information and supplies, and handouts for children.
In addition, a Pioneer University will be held on the lawn between the Brewmaster’s House and Crosby House. Learn pioneer skills such as rope making, basic pioneer cookery, wheat grinding, and butter churning.
This event is presented in partnership with the Olympia Tumwater Foundation.
Be sure to visit Tumwater’s oldest residence, the Crosby House. The house is fully furnished with period pieces, and is operated by Chapter 4, Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington.
Both historic houses will be open one Sunday each month, 1-4 p.m., from May through September.
