TUMWATER
A Place to Live, Work and Play

With the arrival of winter comes shorter days, darkness and colder weather.  It’s easy to stay inside, be less active and become content to wait for spring to arrive.  We say, get out and recreate!  It’s good for you both mentally and physically and all of your friends and family can do it with you.  Take the kids, take a spouse, a friend or the dog - everyone feels better after getting outside and enjoying the beauty of what our City has to offer.  There are mental health benefits as well.  Moderate physical activity can reduce depression and anxiety and improve your energy level and self-esteem.   Don’t be content to watch the winter go by from your couch - get outside and enjoy Tumwater parks and programs - you’ll be glad you did!

Tumwater Parks and Recreation offers a variety of activities, classes, events, and programs for residents of all ages and abilities.  Our Tumwater Youth Program is entering its 15th year of providing safe, fun and educational events for Tumwater youth.  We have grade school and middle school activity nights planned throughout the school year.  Tumwater’s Old Town Center (OTC) continues to offer programs, lunch and activities for seniors each week day and our OTC youth program provides after school and evening activities.  We also have camps, sports leagues, golf specials, golf lessons and community classes and activities for all residents.

This winter and throughout the coming year, take advantage of all that our community has to offer.  As we enter the holiday season, look for further information on our annual holiday event.  The 8th Annual Tumwater Holiday Tree Lighting Festival will take place on Saturday, December 11 at the Tumwater Fire Station, next to City Hall.  You are invited to attend this exciting Tumwater holiday celebration.  The Tree Lighting is sponsored by the Tumwater Downtown Association and will include live, indoor performances by Tumwater elementary and high school students and the Tumwater Senior Choir.   There will be children’s activities and fun for all ages.  The festival ends with Mayor Kmet lighting the holiday tree and the arrival of Santa on an antique fire truck.  So join us for this event and for the many other recreation opportunities that Tumwater has to offer.

Community Involvement

Share your talents!  We are always looking for new instructors with innovative new program ideas.  If you have a talent, specialty or area of expertise, we invite you to teach for us.  Call today and let us know how we can help you share your talents.

Share your ideas!  Maybe you don’t have a talent you want to share with us, but perhaps you have a great idea of what you would like to see us offer.  Let us know!

Helping Hands!  We are always looking for volunteers who would like to improve the quality of life in our community.  Anyone who likes landscaping, weeding, or planting flowers and would like to volunteer their time should contact us.  Gardening not your thing?  Well what about painting or minor construction?  If you, or a group you belong to, or perhaps a neighborhood group have an interest in helping us out, give us a call.
