May 6. The Simmons-Bush party leaves St. Joseph, Missouri for Oregon Territory. |

April 10, Michael and Elizabeth Simmons give birth to a son, Christopher Columbus Simmons while traveling to Tumwater. |
| October. The Simmons-Bush party arrive at the lower falls of the Deschutes River. They name their settlement New Market. The name is later changed to Tumwater from a Chinook jargon word meaning noisy or throbbing water. |
1846 |
Michael T. Simmons builds a grist mill at the lower falls.
The Treaty of 1846 establishes the 49th parallel as the boundary between British and United States territory. |
1847 |
October. The first sawmill on Puget Sound is opened by Michael T. Simmons. |
1848 |
Oregon Territory is created. |

The town of Tumwater is incorporated. |
