The Tumwater Police Department is currently seeking lateral and entry-level Police officers.

The Tumwater Police Department consists of 25 Commissioned Officers and a support staff of five. The City of Tumwater borders the City of Olympia and unincorporated Thurston County.  

Tumwater Police Officers enjoy top-of-the-line equipment and uniforms. All necessary equipment is provided by the city. Officers also receive $1100 a year for uniform and equipment maintenance.

All Officers and Detectives have assigned take-home cars and are all issued back-up guns, H&K G36 partol rifles and Benelli semi-auto shotguns.

Pay and Benefits:

Salary: $4006 (academy) to $5643

Specialty assignment pay and education incentive as well as physical fitness incentive available. Twelve paid holidays, including a floating holiday. Eight hours of vacation accrued every month after one year of service.

Qualifications:

LATERAL OFFICER:
Must have been employed as a full-time law enforcement officer in a civilian policy agency or sheriff's office with at least two years of service. Out-of-state candidates much complete a Washington State equivalency academy within one year of appointment. All candidates must complete a background check, polygraph and psycological exam.

ENTRY-LEVEL:
Must be 21 years of age with no felony or domestice violence convictions. Must possess a valid Washington driver's license at the time of appointment. Successful applicants must complete a 720 hour academy and a three month field-training program.
