The Tumwater Police Department has recently applied for a funding grant through the Justice Assistance Grant Program - Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. The allotted monies for the City of Tumwater is $25,589.
A requirement of the grant program is the availability for the public to review the grant information and proposed expenditure of those funds. The Police Department intends to use the funds to improve the capabilities of the investigations unit to investigate and collect evidence at crime scenes through the purchase of a fully equipped crime scene trailer, improve the main evidence room by installing modular shelving and other efficiencies and to bring the off-site evidence storage area up to accepted standards. These improvements will greatly enhance the collection, storage and security of property taken into custody by the Police Department.
