Pioneer Log Cabin
The cabin, with its hand-peeled fir logs and split cedar shake roof, is similar to homes built by the first American settlers on Puget Sound in 1845. After the Puget Sound Milling Company built the first sawmill in 1846 on the lower Tumwater Falls, milled lumber was widely used to build homes.
Weldon Rau of Olympia built this log cabin in 1969 in memory of his pioneer grandparents and donated it to the City of Tumwater in the early 1980s.
