WHAT IS DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP REGISTRATION?
The City of Tumwater’s Domestic Partnership Registration program is a means by which unmarried couples in committed, on-going relationships, may document their relationships. This recognizes the diversity of relationships, including lesbian, gay and unmarried heterosexual couples (and their children), and unmarried elderly partners.

Domestic Partnership Registration is voluntary, and does not create any new or different legal rights or responsibilities, or any contractual relationships or obligations between the registrants.

WHO ARE DOMESTIC PARTNERS?
Under the definition provided by City of Tumwater Ordinance No. O99-046, Domestic Partners are two people, both of whom are eighteen years of age or older; neither of whom is married or related by blood in a manner that would bar their marriage in Washington state; who have a relationship of mutual support, caring and commitment; and are each other’s sole domestic partner.

DO WE HAVE TO BE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF TUMWATER?
Yes. The City of Tumwater’s Domestic Partnership Registration program is open only to residents of the City of Tumwater.

IS DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP REGISTRATION CONFIDENTIAL?
No. When an application for Domestic Partnership Registration is filed with the Administrative Services Department, it becomes a public record pursuant to Revised Code of Washington (RCW) Section 42.17.

HOW DO WE REGISTER AS DOMESTIC PARTNERS?
Obtain a Domestic Partnership Registration form from the Administrative Services Department, Tumwater City Hall, 555 Israel Road SW, Tumwater, WA 98501. To have an application mailed to you, call the Human Resources Program Manager at (360) 754-4132 or e-mail your request to dlund@ci.tumwater.wa.us.  You may download the registration form from this site.

Questions & Answers Regading Domestic Partnership

Domestic Partnership Registration Form

Complete the name and address information in a legible manner. Both partners must sign the application form in the presence of a Notary Public.

Take or mail the notarized application form, along with a $25 registration fee, to the Administrative Services Department, Domestic Partner Registration Program, 555 Israel Road SW, Tumwater, WA 98501.

Upon receipt of your application form and fee payment, the Administrative Services Department will mail to you, at the address listed on your application form, a certificate of registration.

WHAT IF WE WISH TO TERMINATE OUR DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP REGISTRATION?
To terminate a Domestic Partnership Registration, obtain a Domestic Partnership Registration termination form from the Administrative Services Department (address and phone number above).

At least one partner must sign the termination application form, and have that signature notarized. Signature and notarization of the second partner is optional.

Domestic Partnership Termination Form

Mail or bring the completed termination form to the Administrative Services Department (address above), along with a $25 dissolution fee.

A domestic partnership registered with the City of Tumwater is considered to be in effect unless or until a termination form has been received and processed by the City.
