Regional Human Services Review Council Committee: Councilmember Betsy Spath

The Regional Human Services Review Council makes an annual recommendation to local jurisdictions regarding human services needs and emerging issues. Meetings are held the third Friday of each month at 8:00 a.m. at the Thurston County Health Department Building.

Thurston Council for Children and Youth Leadership: Councilmember Neil McClanahan
Staff: Chuck Denney, Parks and Recreation Director

Meetings are held the third Friday every month at 7:30 a.m. Meetings are typically held at the Thurston County Courthouse, but the location may vary. The purpose of Together! is to mobilize communities to collaboratively assess local needs, develop and implement prevention activities to reduce youth violence and substance abuse, and build communities which support families and children.

Joint Animal Services Commission (JASCOM): Councilmember Joan Cathey

The Animal Services Commission consists of six members, meeting the second Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m. The Animal Services Commission exists to educate the public about the responsibilities of pet ownership; to place animals in responsible homes; to protect the public from injury and disease; and to help resolve animal problems.

Thurston County Economic Development Council: Councilmember Joan Cathey

The Economic Development Council consists of fifteen members, meeting on the last Monday of each month at 3:30 p.m. in the Pacific Mountain Workforce Consortium conference room. The Economic Development Council is a private and public partnership committed to expanding private enterprise in Thurston County. Client definition: private enterprise that is operating, expanding, growing, or locating in Thurston County.

Intercity Transit Authority: Councilmember Ed Hildreth

The Intercity Transit Authority consists of nine members, meeting on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. The mission of Intercity Transit is to provide quality transportation by addressing the needs and demand of those riders, employees, and the community.

LOTT Alliance Board of Directors: Councilmember Tom Oliva

The LOTT Alliance Board of Directors consists of eight members, meeting on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. LOTT is an intergovernmental arrangement between the cities of Lacey, Olympia and Tumwater and Thurston County to operate, maintain and improve existing wastewater transmission, treatment and discharge facilities.

Thurston County Solid Waste Advisory Committee: Councilmember Ed Hildreth

The Thurston County Solid Waste Advisory Committee is a fourteen-member committee that meets on the second Thursday of every month (except July) at 11:30 a.m. The committee is required by state law, and acts as an advisory body to the Thurston County Commissioners for solid waste planning and program implementation.

Thurston Regional Planning Council: Councilmember Tom Oliva

Thurston Regional Planning Council consists of a sixteen-member board which meets the first Friday of every month (except January) at 8:30 a.m. The council provides visionary leadership on regional plans, policies and issues.

The TComm 911 Administration Board establishes an annual budget to be incorporated into Thurston County’s budget, sets policies, and oversees the employment of the director and co-director of TComm 911. The TComm 911 Administration Board consists of eight members meeting the first Wednesday of every month at 3:30 p.m.

Thurston County LEOFF Disability Board: Councilmember Betsy Spath

This is a five-member board which sets policy and reviews claims for Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters Retirement Plan I (LEOFF I). The board meets the 3rd Wednesday monthly, 12:30 p.m. at the courthouse.

Thurston County Housing Task Force: Councilmember Neil McClanahan

The Committee was formed in 1993 to address issues surrounding homeless individuals within Thurston County. Although the committee was initially established as an ad hoc committee, and has addressed immediate concerns that were brought forth in 1993. The committee meets on the last Monday of January and February, and the 3rd Monday of every month (March - December) at 12:00 p.m. at the Olympia Timberland Library.

Tumwater United For Families (TUFF): Councilmember Neil McClanahan
Staff: Chuck Denney, Parks and Recreation Director; Kathryn Baria, Parks and Recreation Coordinator

Tumwater United for Families (TUFF) is an advisory committee to the Parks and Recreation Department, whose main goal is to focus programs for “At-Risk” youth. Additionally, the goals are to strengthen and enhance the Neighborhood Center and oversee production and distribution of videos for youth against drugs and alcohol. TUFF meets the 1st Friday of every month at 12:00 p.m. at the River's Edge Restaurant.

Transportation Policy Board: Mayor Pete Kmet

The 16-member Transportation Policy Board consists of representatives from major employers, Intercity Transit, Port of Olympia, and member cities, towns and counties within the region. The board provides advice on transportation policy issues to the Thurston Regional Planning Council. It meets the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 a.m. at the offices of TRPC.

Community Action Council: Councilmember Judith Hoefling

Meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of each month (except August - combined meeting in Nov/Dec) at 5:30 p.m. The mission of the Community Action Council is to improve the quality of life of all residents of Lewis, Mason, and Thurston counties by promoting self-sufficiency, strengthening families, and mobilizing community resources toward elimination of the causes and effects of poverty. To accomplish this mission, the Council serves over 9,000 low-income individuals and families each year through programs that prevent homelessness, reduce hunger, and strengthen families.

Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater Visitor Convention Bureau: Councilmember Judith Hoefling

The Visitor Convention Bureau Board of Directors meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., at various locations. The Board of Directors is comprised of 21 volunteers representing hoteliers, businesses and attractions in the Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater - Thurston County area. A full-time staff person manages the organization in accordance with the leadership of the Board of Directors.

The Visitor and Convention Bureau is a non-profit economic development agency responsible for competitively marketing the Thurston County area as a destination for conventions, tour groups and individual travelers. The goal of these marketing efforts is to enhance the economic vitality of the region while celebrating the rich history and diversity of Thurston County.

Thurston County HOME Consortium: Councilmember Neil McClanahan

The Thurston County HOME Consortium consists of Thurston County, the cities of Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, Rainier, Yelm, Tenino and the Town of Bucoda for the purpose of being able to receive and administer federal funds under the HOME Investments Partnership Program to meet the housing needs of citizens within Thurston County. The consortium meets the second Monday of every month at 11:00 a.m., at the Thurston County Health Department.

Thurston County Transfer of Development Rights: Councilmember Tom Oliva

The Thurston County Transfer of Development Rights is an informal group that meets at various times and locations throughout the year to discuss reinvigorating Thurston County's Transfer of Development Rights program. The goal of the program is to encourage the conservation of long-term commercially significant agricultural lands by allowing owners of such lands to realize the equity in the land's development potential without conversion to nonagricultural uses.

Thurston County Regional Law and Justice Council: Councilmember Judith Hoefling

The Thurston County Law and Justice Council provides an inter-jurisdictional forum for consideration of initiatives and resources to improve criminal justice services, enhance public safety and reduce crime throughout Thurston County. The council meets on a quarterly basis at the Thurston County Courthouse and the time varies.

Healthy Kids Safe Streets Action Team (TRPC): Councilmember Joan Cathey

The goal of the action team is to plan and implement strategies that adress school, transportation and community health issues. Especially encouraging students to walk, bike or take the bus "Walk or Roll" program. The team meets on the first Thursday of the month, 1:30pm, at the Thurston Regional Planning Council office.
