Tumwater's Urban Growth Area
The Urban Growth Area (UGA) is a regional border that helps control urban sprawl by keeping high-density development within its boundaries. In Tumwater, the UGA spans from east of Black Lake to just west of Chambers Creek. We share our UGA with Olympia in the upper region, and it continues south to roughly 93rd Avenue SE. This map outlines the area, along with proposed study areas.
Urban Growth Areas were mandated through the Growth Management Act to facilitate City planning for future growth.
