BARNES LAKE
MANAGEMENT DISTRICT
The Barnes Lake Management District was created by ordinance on December 7, 2004. On August 2, 2005, the Tumwater City Council appointed a citizen steering committee who will serve to advise the Council on planning, project implementation, and the allocation of assessed funds, representing the interests of ALL property owners and residents within the LMD. The selected citizens represent varied interests, are spatially distributed around the lake, and all share a common concern for the health of Barnes Lake.
Some of the issues and opportunities the Steering Committee will be addressing include:
- A limnological study of the lake, including water quality, wildlife, and habitat assessments
- Management of aquatic plants and noxious weed prevention & eradication
- Environmental education
- Recreation planning, and
- Habitat management
