City of Tumwater Water System Plan for 2010-2015
The City of Tumwater delivers high quality drinking water to approximately 22,500 customers through over 6,600 connections daily.
The Water System Plan helps guide the utility operations, provides recommendations for capital improvements and prepares financial considerations necessary to ensure the City can continue to meet the existing needs of our customers and planned future demands. The plan presents both a 6-year view and a longer, 20-year plan, and is used by City staff to accomplish goals toward efficient use and protection of our limited water resources, preservation and growth of the water system to maintain reliable access to potable water for current and future customers and the fiscally responsible operation of the City’s water utility.

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) requires the City to update this plan every six years, which must also be approved by DOH following Council adoption of the plan. The 2010 update to the Water System Plan involved a two year process to develop the plan and provide for state, local and public reviews of the plan, before being adopted by the Tumwater City Council on August 2, 2011. In August 2011, the City received formal approval from DOH.
